Problem

Expense reports at Nomad's customers took six days to approve, mostly because they were filled in wrong. The tool blamed the traveler; the traveler blamed the tool.

Approach

The receipt comes first: photograph it, and the fields fill themselves with a confidence mark on each so a person checks the uncertain ones only. Policy problems show up while you type, not after you submit. Approvers get an inbox that sorts the ready ones to the top.

Outcome

Approval time went from six days to one, and finance stopped asking for receipts by email.
